Amazon cuts 9,000 jobs; now at least 27,000 layoffs in 2023

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:15:31 GMT

NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon plans to eliminate 9,000 more jobs in the next few weeks, CEO Andy Jassy said in a memo to staff on Monday. The job cuts would mark the second largest round of layoffs in the company’s history, adding to the 18,000 employees the company said it would lay off in January. Yet the company’s workforce doubled during the pandemic, however, during a hiring surge across almost the entire tech sector. In the memo, Jassy said the second phase of the company’s annual planning process – which determined what areas of the business to trim – completed this month and led to the additional job cuts. He said Amazon will still hire in some strategic areas. “Some may ask why we didn’t announce these role reductions with the ones we announced a couple months ago. The short answer is that not all of the teams were done with their analyses in the late fall; and rather than rush through these assessments without the appropriate diligence, we chose to s...

AUSTIN (KXAN) -- People walking and riding their bikes are getting hit by cars more often, and at an alarming rate throughout Texas, data from the Texas Department of Transportation shows. While the statistical spike is concerning for those who rely on walking or riding next to cars, they are a painful reminder to families who've lost a loved one. Is Nuggets forward Zeke Nnaji, back from shoulder injury, the answer to Denver’s bench unit?

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:15:31 GMT

NEW YORK – Nuggets coach Michael Malone waffled and hedged before settling on a satisfying response.Asked on Sunday afternoon whether he was still in “search mode” when it came to Denver’s bench unit, Malone was as honest as he could be with 10 games left in the regular season.“I guess if I don’t know that means yes, right?” he said. But the veteran coach knows far more than he initially conceded. On Sunday, Denver’s bench included Bruce Brown, Jeff Green and Christian Braun, and featured the return of Zeke Nnaji, who hadn’t played in six weeks due to a shoulder injury. It also, briefly, included Reggie Jackson, who was called upon once Braun got in quick foul trouble.“That second unit (was) defensively, more athletic and versatile,” Malone said of Nnaji’s availability.Despite Denver’s 108-102 win, its second unit got outscored 36-15.The trade deadline additions of Thomas Bryant (DNP – coach’s decision) and Jackson have been largely ineffective, but Malone said he was compelled...
