The fungus called Candida Auris (or C. Auris for short), was first detected in the United States in 2016, but is now spreading at an "alarming" rate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned this week. Doctors are assuring the public that it’s not going to take over the world and kill us all, but it is something we need to be aware of. Rapidly spreading fungus presents ‘urgent’ threat, CDC warns “It’s something we’ve been tracking for probably 10 years,” said infectious disease specialist Dr. Michelle Barron.Between 2019 and 2021, clinical cases of Candida auris tripled. The fungus has now been reported in 28 states, according to the CDC.“The fact that it’s increasing in number and also increasing in terms of where we can find it is kind of a combination that’s very disturbing,” said Dr. Bruce Hirsch at Northwell Health in New York. Candida auris is so concerning because it is often resistant to anti-fungal drugs, making it hard to treat infections. It can also be ha...

Decluttering your home: A minimalist shares 7 ways to live with less

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 01:01:00 GMT

How much is enough? In a world of hoarders and minimalists, where do you fall on the continuum, and where would you like to fall?I’ll tell you, if a hoarder is a 10 and a minimalist is a one, I’m a 3.5. I’d like to be a three. I don’t like clutter. But I do like my stuff — my collections, my clothes, my books, my jewelry, my dishes — much of it, some could argue,  unnecessary. I don’t want to live an austere life, but I do want to live a well-edited life. And purging our excesses, my friends, like eating right and exercising, takes discipline.Stuff — mine and yours — has been on my mind since I spoke last week with former “Hoarders” host Matt Paxton. An active Instagramer (@RaisingSimple) and author of “M...

Gary Payton II is slated to participate in a full-team practice this weekend and could be cleared to play as soon as Sunday, the Warriors announced Thursday afternoon. Payton, who hasn’t played since Feb. 8, has been ramping up his on-court activities in recent weeks. He joined the team on its recent five-city road trip and was spotted doing individual strength and conditioning work.Coach Steve Kerr said Wednesday that Payton has been “doing well,” and the team hoped he’d be back on the court “before too long.” Payton will practice Saturday without restrictions, the team said. Depending on how Payton’s body responds to the workout Saturday, he could be good to go for Sunday’s game against the Minn...
