Throughout the past several months, we’ve seen the cost of food soar with inflation and the rising prices are affecting residents and business owners alike.“I started my business more full-time in [January 2021] and compared to now, it (prices) is double — like everything,” Noel Cunningham, a Toronto-based chef and cookbook author, told CityNews. “The problem is that the customers they don’t, often times, understand because their expectation is the same or the same quality for the same price that we’re paying maybe two, three years ago, and it’s different. I can’t give the customer more portions for a lesser price either.”Cunningham, who specialized in Jamaican cuisine, said a doubling of meat prices and higher costs to use items imported from Jamaica have particularly hit his bottom line.
